Needless to say, a lot has happened since heading down to NOLA. Firstly, Phoenix of New Orleans (PNOLA) is an amazing non-profit organization (you can find out more at Pnola.org) that is not well known however really should because they bust their butt's doing a ridiculous amount of work for nothing.

Most of the pics above encompass the demolition work done at the first house Ruth Ashlyn and I worked at this week.  Not only did we demo this house however we took down the 8 foot ceiling foundation and got to kick down the ceiling above it which was pretty awesome.  There's also a picture of a header above a door frame that I Put up (my first door header, how monumental!). What I love about working with PNOLA is the trust they have in us.  For example at the start of the day Will, our site supervisor will give us tasks to do and expects them to get done however will not stand over you or even inquire about your project because he is busy doing work elsewhere, giving us full responsibility to complete the task at hand.  It really makes the day go by a lot quicker when you're able to do your own thing whether it be working on making a header, filling in floors, gutting a house, or whatever.

Of course it was also amazing to catch up with the sis finally.  We met up Monday for lunch and went out later that night for drinks and some quality music on Frenchmen street.  The band in the video above is from the second place we went to (Ma they even played when the saints go marching in). This was my first experience on Frenchmen street and I was impressed... apparently there is more to NOLA than bourbon street, yes I was just as shocked as you are.

Halloween 2010 @ Voodoo Fest

First weekend in Nawlins was one for the ages. I'm pretty psyched to spend 2 months working in "Who Dat Nation".  Going from one extreme following to the next, Alabama and Saints fans both are highly dedicated to their teams.

Voodoo Fest was an all weekend event starting on Friday and going until Sunday night at the City Park which is about 2-3 miles from our housing.  Although Cain and myself went there all 3 days, it was not until the 3rd day that we actually were able to get into the park buying tickets off craigslist at a nicely discounted price.  Fun Fact, this was the first concert I went to that did not have DMB in it! Paul Oakenfold, Deadmau5, and MGMT preformed like no other. It was fun to see lots of people dressed up for Halloween in ridiculous costumes; some of my favorites included Oscar the Grouch, Gumby, a giant Frosted mini-wheat, Yoshi, and Predator.  There were a ton of Drew Brees jerseys and Waldo's roaming around, ironically making waldo the easiest to spot out in the crowd.

Fortunately we were given a 3 day weekend and have Monday off. On top of that Friday we have half day work days and have a bbq in the park for the second half of the day which is awesome.  Could not ask for a better start to my 2nd Spike!
